Group Committee

The Gundaroo Scout Group Management Committee is a dedicated group of people who facilitate the effective running of scouting activities by our trained and enthusiastic leaders. The Committee was formed almost a year before the start of Scouting activities in the village to plan the sequencing of initiating activities, to meet the State Branch requirements and to address all logistic challenges including fundraising and venue leasing.  Some of the Committee's 'important' early decisions included selecting the group scarf colours, coordinating leader training and setting fee levels so as to foster maximum participation. The Committee benefited from Andrew Mackie's knowledge and experience as a Scouting Group Leader and our President, Julie Bray's commitment.

The Committee is now pursuing the effective sustainment of the Group and look to develop a Strategic Plan, with a heavy focus on fundraising, development of facilities and quality improvement of group policies and procedure such as the creation Personnel Sub Committee, which has the charter to recruit, train and support suitable adults to the Group. The Committee also invests heavily in equipment planning for both group holdings and specific activities and benefits from the expertise of our Quartermaster Tony Webber and the generosity of our Treasurer John Donnelly who has provided ample temporary equipment storage.  If anyone has equipment they would like to donate to the Group you should contact Tony Webber.  Given its nearly Tax time donations to Scouts are also tax deductible. If you have the philanthropic urge to give then John Donnelly can provide the necessary receipts.

The accountability of the Committees decisions are augmented by a commitment to record keeping and full minutes of Group Committee decisions are maintained by the Committee Secretary Vicky Saunders.   Minutes of the Committee meeting will be posted to this website so you can keep up to date with the Groups administration.

From a zero start in February this year, the Group has grown enormously. Adriana Mackie has undertaken the huge task of coordinating registrations and establishing the Group contact list.  We have over 80 youth members, 11 adult leaders trained or in training and well over 20 registered Parent Helpers. Adriana will vacate this role in July to take up the same role in another organisation.  The ongoing Registration Secretary role will be much easier because of Adriana’s efforts.

As Grants Officer, Phil Langworthy has been instrumental in winning funding to help establish an initial storage facility for the Group.

There is ample scope for new participation in the Committee and immediate roles exist for a membership secretary, for a fundraising coordinator and a Jamboree administrator/planner. Any villagers or interested persons are welcome to join the Committee whether parents of scouts or not. Meetings are generally held monthly and are kept to two hours or so with a cappuccino to keep us all going.   The Annual General Meeting will be conducted late each year. The exact date will be published in the next month or two.

The Committee performs a critical and behind the scenes role in the conduct of Gundaroo Scouting, but it is the engagement of our Joey, Cub, Scout and Venturer leaders who are the real horsepower behind the early success of our Group.

The Group Committee is made up of mostly of non-uniformed (that is, do not need to do Scout Leader Training or wear a uniform) adults and has positions and office bearers (bios of each of these can be virewed on the committee members link on the left menu)
