Mob Meeting Times

We meet at the Soldier’s Memorial Hall in Gundaroo on Thursdays for one hour from 6pm to 7pm during most weeks of the NSW school term.

About Joeys

Joey Scouts are the youngest section in the Scouting Family for children 6 and 7 years of age.  The Scout Association of Australia introduced the section in 1990.  Joey Scouts make a Promise and have a Theme and Law.

Joey Scout Promise

“I promise to do my best, to love my God and be helpful”.

Joey Scout Law

“A Joey Scout cares. A Joey Scout shares”.

Joey Scout Theme

“Help Other People” - HOP

The Joey Scout Section is a training section that provides an educational program in a Scouting atmosphere.

  • To develop a sense of sharing.
  • To develop a sense of personal identity through exploration of surroundings and nature.
  • To develop a sense of belonging.
  • To develop a spiritual awareness.
  • To develop a sense of responsibility for one’s self and one’s actions.

Parent Helpers

Parent helpers are a valuable part of the mob.  They can help out regularly, every now and again on a roster system, when a leader is absent, when we have activities away from the hall.  We will have a need for parent helpers at various times and occasionally on short notice if a leader is unable to attend.  While we can use Kanga (the group leader) as an extra leader on some occasions, we also need to maintain a balance of male and female adults present.  That means we need some mothers to help out, as the current leaders are all male.

Please consider being a parent helper.  Insufficient numbers of parent helpers will limit our ability for excursions or some of the activities.

Fees

Before being invested, you must pay the annual group fee.  At the beginning of each term subscription fees (subs) are paid in advance for the whole term, at the current rate of $2 per week.  Subscription fees are not payable for the first two weeks of your child’s time in Joeys.
There may be additional fees for individual activities.  These fees will be notified in advance and will be calculated on a cost basis.

Investiture

Your child will be invested after they attend 4 meetings and can demonstrate that they understand the promise and law.  They will need a uniform shirt before they can be invested.  If this is a problem for you, please discuss with the leaders before the scheduled investiture night.

Uniform

Joeys won’t need uniform until they are invested.  Official uniform consists of a shirt with all appropriate badges sewn on and a group scarf and a woggle that will be supplied on investiture.  Badges will also be supplied by the group.  Shirts can be purchased from the Snowgum shop located in Braddon, ACT.  You have a choice of either a shirt or polo shirt.  Each section has different colour flash on their shoulders, the Joey colour is TAN.

Scout belts and trousers are also available from Snowgum, but these are not compulsory parts of the uniform.  A good pair of enclosed shoes is a must for mob meetings, but it doesn’t matter what kind.

Leaders

The Joey Scout Leaders are:

Pademelon (Peter Bray)                              Wombat (Dean Coslett)
Home: 62368086                                            Home: 62368116
Mobile: 0412068484                                      Mobile: 0427284320

Please feel free to contact the leaders at any time should you have any concerns or questions.
If you think that you could be a leader, then please talk to one of the leaders. We currently only have the two leaders and to run more effectively (particularly with a big mob) would really need at least three on any one night.

Your leaders are volunteers.  We receive no payment, often pay our own way and spend a considerable amount of time preparing for and running the mob meetings.
